Mary Grace started pre-K yesterday! How could my little baby girl already be old enough to start going to school 5 full days a week? Well, it wasn't a HUGE surprise as Mike and I signed her up for 5 days, but the reality sunk in yesterday. (We decided on the 5 full days after she attended 3 full days of Mother's Day Out and always asked "to go to school" the other 4 days of the week.)
She started the morning by asking for a special "hair do" from aunt Allie. Then she picked out her favorite red, heart dress with matching red shoes. After feeding Maverick (one of her new chores) we were ready to go to school. We took her official "1st day of school" picture with MG's favorite "big girl" neighbor and babysitter Amanda as she was leaving for her first day of 10th grade. MG decided she wanted to ride in her red wagon because it matched her dress. "No stroller! Those are for babies!" I guess wagons are OK, though.

Mary Grace did not even look back once she met her new teacher Mrs. Elsik and saw her new classroom. She barely even said goodbye. She acted like a teenager when I asked her if she wanted to give Jake a kiss goodbye by saying "Mommmmmmmm, how embarrassing!"
When I picked her up she was very happy and told me she got to be the teacher's helper. Her job this week is helping with the calendar. Her classroom has a pet fish but she doesn't know his name yet. She was a little tired but already seemed a little older to me.
This major transition has taken a toll on me because we have been together 24/7 for the last 4 months. MG is taking it all in stride. But what was I to expect? This little, beautiful girl is exceptional.... she makes friends easy, she adapts to new situations better than most adults and she loves to learn!
The house is extremely quiet and Jake and I seem to miss a very major part of our day; a loud, happy, bubbly, bright, wonderful 3 year old tornado. I got choked up a few times throughout the day and Jake looked around all day probably wondering "where is my big sister?" Although it is nice to not answer the question "Why?" 150 times a day I miss it terribly.

Tears fill my eyes as I read this! I am so happy for her, but I know how much it killed you! Although, she adjusted just fine, as we knew she would! She is such a breath of fresh air. Give her kisses for me...and Jake! I miss you guys terribly. If we said we missed you once in Louisville, we said it a million times! Love you guys!
WOW! Such a beautiful grown up girl. I am so blessed to have had MG time. Now I have those memories to last a lifetime. Thank you for letting me be a little part of the family. Miss you guys!
Tell MG that Miss Kelly hopes she makes lots of friends and learns as much as she can. I know how wonderful she is and I can't wait for everyone else to get the chance to see it too.
